Home Alone

Round Rock is freaking tough men. It's too quiet, I can't drink, can't find good sushi and most importantly, it has no sounds, none, zilch; no ambulance sirens, no police sirens, no people walking..talking, no cars honking, no babies crying. Am I in the twilight zone? What-the-heck...I used to live here! Yet it feels so unfamiliar. Even driving is a strange event. So here's my story:  I left my job in new york city 3months ago and 2wks ago moved in with my sister, my very cool brother-in-law and my 2yr old nephew, instantly trading singleness for family-life. Lord help me, someone should've told me.
As I sit in bed blogging about this new slice of life, I have a 1/4 bottle of merlot stashed in the closet under a pile of jeans, a waiters corkscrew in my purse and self-torture in my heart for leading what appears to be an undercover life. So the family left for Dallas Friday evening to attend weddings, kiss a few babies. I wasn't budging, sister tried using the guilt trip on me but I wasn't ready to start explaining a thousand reasons a thousand times to a thousand people. (hows ny? you left, why? what happened?) No thanks, I opted to stay back in RR. I ended up driving myself crazy. What occurred was my first lesson in how i lived versus how other people live. Since my sister and her husband don't drink (at least not enough for a new yorker) I decided that my first solo store trip would be to HEB (no, not Heeb..just h.e.b) to purchase a bottle of wine. Let me take this sidebar to rail against outrageous wine prices in the greater new york area!! I found a most cherished bottle of menage-a-trois for $7.39. $7.39!!! That piece of glass cost me at least $13 in Brooklyn. What the heck was i paying for, shipping and handling?
